REVIEW PENGARUH HIPOGLIKEMIK TEMPE SEGAR PADA DIABETES MELLITUS

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a serious chronic disease in Indonesia. The result of Basic Health Research, from Indonesian Ministry of Health in 2007 showed that among the causes of death in Indonesia, diabetes ranks as the second highest cause of death. Hyperglycemia in diabetes mellitus due to pancreatic beta cell destruction can cause the raising of free radicals production (reactive oxygen species), that are characterized by their high potential for causing oxidative damage to the body’s DNA, proteins, membranes, and other components.  This study was conducted to review of influence of fresh tempeh hypoglycemic diabetes mellitus. The fresh tempeh is the source of excellent antioxidants in form of protein, betacaroten, vitamin B2, vitamin E, Se, Zn, Cu, SOD and high isoflavones. Tempe isoflavone-containing diets have been reported to be beneficial in diabetes mellitus because they show potential antioxidant and antihyperglicemia activities. The antioxidants in fresh tempeh can bedamagedby theprocess of cooking, thereforetempeantioxidants only obtained by regularconsumption offreshtempeh100-150grams per day which is capable of preventingdiabetes mellitus.
