GALLERY WALK DIKOLABORASIKAN DENGAN GRAFFITI DALAM ARGUMENTATIVE SPEAKING CLASS

Abstract

This study belonged to Classroom Action Research which was administered to find out the effectiveness of Gallery Walk collaborated with Graffiti. The subjects of this study were the students of semester IVF English Education Study Program FKIP Unmas Denpasar in academic year 2015/2016. This study was done in three respective cycles in which each cycle consisted of four interrelated sessions. The instruments used were pre-test and post-tests which were gathered by using speaking scoring rubric, questionnaires and teacher’s diary. The data taken were in the form of quantitative data and qualitative data. It was found out that before being treated by Gallery Walk collaborated with Graffiti, the students had problems in arguing verbally using English. It could be seen from the mean score of the pre-test given which was 60.50 was considered low. After being given treatments which were done in three cycles, the students’ mean scores were increased accordingly; mean score of cycle I was 62.17, mean score of cycle II was 70.50, mean score of cycle III was 79.67. The results of questionnaires given also showed students’ positive response toward the use of Gallery Walk collaborated with Graffiti. It could be seen from the percentage of the chosen item A 44.44% which was regarded as the students strongly agreed and item B 52.24% stated that the students agreed toward the implementation of Gallery Walk collaborated with Graffiti in speaking class. This study revealed the importance of using innovative teaching techniques in teaching language students to enhance English speaking competence.
