PENERAPAN COMPETITIVE SIMULTANEOUS ROUNDTABLE DALAM UPAYA PENINGKATAN KETERAMPILAN MENULIS

Abstract

Writing skill is one of the skills in English that must be mastered by students, especially the students in semester IIIE of English Literature Study Program STIBA Saraswati Denpasar. Based on the pre-test conducted by the researcher, it is found that the ability of the  students in writing skills are still low. To overcome the problems the researchers applied a modified learning model called Simultaneous Roundtable into Competitive Simultaneous Roundtable. The research problems of this study are(1) How is the improvement of the writing skills of the subjects after they were taught using a collaborative learning model Competitive Simultaneous Roundtable? and (2) How is the response of the subjects to the implementation of learning model Competitive Simultaneous Roundtable in improving writing skill? The research design used in this research is the Classroom Action Research. This study was conducted in several cycles consisting of two sessions for each cycle, namely: planning, action, observation and reflection. The quantitative data obtained from the test instrument were: pre-test and post-tests while the qualitative data were obtained from the questionnaire. Based on the analysis of data, there was an improvement of the writing skills of the research subjects. The imrpovement of the subjects’ writing skill  can be seen from the results of post-tests that have reached the minimum score 70. The qualitative data from the questionnaire stated that the learning model Competitive Simultaneous Roundtable applied by researchers get a positive response from the research subjects. It can be seen from the percentage of research subjects who responded strongly agree and agree to the application of the learning model.
